Interesting Social Media Benchmarks For The Real Estate Industry

Just finished reading the recent report published by Hubspot . . . 2015 Social Media Benchmarks Report.

One of the industries they studied was real estate, and the study revealed some very interesting information about social media posting frequency and engagement.

The real estate industry had the distinction of posting to social media more often than any of the other industries studied.  Unfortunately, the real estate industry also had the distinction of having the 'worst engagement'.

Why do you think this is the case?  How often . . . and what . . . should you be posting to your social media accounts?

You can derive your own conclusions after reviewing the report, but it seems pretty clear that more is not better . . . and taking the time to produce higher-quality posts with original thoughts that may inspire people to 'like', 'share', 're-tweet', etc. should be the goal.

Intelligent Tagging - How To Use Tags Right

Think of Tags as part of your website's index, letting both readers and search engines lock in on a specific topic and easily find all the content on your site that is related to that topic.  Tags are a way of organizing your website content so that readers and search engines can find it easier.

Tags not only help readers navigate your website, but they also have the benefit of making your blog more 'sticky' for visitors. If you’ve ever used a 'related posts' plugin, you know the benefits of letting readers know how to continue to read about the same topics on your website. Instead of hitting the back button to search for more info, they see that they can find it all on your website.

While the primary purpose of Tags are to help your readers navigate your blog posts and other content, using them properly will also improve your SEO.  How does that work?  The internal links of the Tags guide search engine bots to discover all your site’s content by following those links. The anchor text of the Tag names tell the search engines what topics your website is about, and allow you to rank for those targeted keywords.

Note on this blog post that we used two Tags, Blogging/Content Creation and Search Engine Optimization, because this post is about both of those broader subjects. When you click on either of these, you are linked to a page that displays all posts with the same Tag.  You can see how useful that might be, for your readers as well as for search engines.

Here are Some Best Practices for Using Tags:

Great Examples of Listing Videos

Century 21 Sbarra & Wells in Binghamton New York has the best examples of Listing Videos that we've seen.  If you're planning to video some of your listings, you should check out what they are doing . . . their videos are excellent . . . and the exposure they get for their properties is great.

Here is what they do:

  • A professional videographer records and prepares the video
  • They post the video on their YouTube channel
  • They link the video to the property on their website so users can view the video from the Property Details Pages
  • They have a Listing Video Slideshow on their home page that scrolls through property videos and links to full property details.
  • There is also a 'Showcase Videos' link in their Property Search that displays all properties that are Active and have videos.

What a great job they are doing!  I would definitely list my home with this company.

Looking for a competitive edge?  This is a good one!

Either click here or click on the website photo to go to their live site and check out their videos.
